Old Age Pension (AOV)

The General Law on Old Age Pension (Algemene Ouderdomsverzekering, AOV) is a basic pension for people who are 65 or older. Do you live or work in the Caribbean Netherlands or have you lived or worked here? Then you are most likely insured for the AOV. The RCN unit SZW pays the AOV. You must submit an application in order to receive AOV.

Read more below. Or go directly to:

Apply for AOV

An application for AOV must be submitted six months before you turn 65. You can visit the SZW unit for this during a consultation hour. Click here to see which documents you must bring.

It is also possible to apply digitally for AOV. Download the  AOV application form here. Send the completed forms together with a scan of the documents listed above to pensioen@rijksdienstcn.com.

If you applied for your AOV too late, you can get AOV retroactively for a maximum of 1 year.

If you have lived or worked outside of the Caribbean Netherlands, you may not have been insured and your AOV pension may be lower. In that case you may be eligible for an additional supplement from the social relief.

AOV date of payment

The following table shows the payment dates for 2023. If you do not have a local bank account it may take longer to receive your pension.

If you have submitted your application on time, you will receive your first AOV payment on the first payment date following your birthday. For example, if you reach the AOV age on the 5th of February, you will receive your first AOV payment on February 24th.

You receive a Christmas allowance if you were entitled to AOV in September of that year. The Christmas allowance is equal to the amount that you received in September. The Christmas allowance is paid out together with the December AOV payment.

Pension from other countries

Are you 65+ and have you previously lived and worked in Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten or the Netherlands?
