Appeal by OLB and SZW to people in isolation or quarantine not to go to work

Kralendijk - The Public Entity of Bonaire (OLB) and the RCN unit of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) are calling on people who are in isolation or quarantine not to go to work. In view of the high number of infections, it is important that these people stay at home.

Stay safe

Employers can apply to SZW for 'loss of wages' (sick pay). This is an application for compensation of the wage costs of employees who are unable to work. In this case, it concerns employees who are in isolation or quarantine.

These employees must be reported by the employer to SZW on the first day they do not come to work. This can be done via MijnCN.nl.  The insurance doctor will then contact the employee to check whether the employer can receive a loss of income benefit (sick pay) for the employee in quarantine or isolation. There are conditions for receiving loss of income benefit (sick pay) for such an employee.

The OLB and SZW understands that, due to the high number of infections, many employers are struggling with less staff. Nevertheless, it is important that employers and employees adhere to the rules that apply to isolation and quarantine. Employers should also ensure that employees who need to be isolated or quarantined at home do not come to work. In this way, employers and employees take responsibility and do not put public health at risk.

The Labour Inspectorate of SZW checks whether employers comply with the laws for a healthy and safe workplace. This includes whether they comply with the corona rules that currently apply.  Employees who observe an unsafe situation at work can discuss it with their supervisor. If this does not help, they can contact the Labour Inspectorate via arbeidsinspectie@rijksdienstcn.com or call 781-5662.

The Supervision and Enforcement Department of the OLB checks, among other things, whether catering establishments keep to the current closing times. Citizens can call Supervision and Enforcement via 715 5300 and 796 4850 to report businesses that do not adhere to the corona rules. A short time ago, the department closed a catering business when it turned out that employees who should have been in quarantine were still at work.
