Who will children and parents encounter if the Guardianship Council is involved?

Reporting party
The reporting party is an organisation that contacts the Guardianship Council if there are issues with the development of a child. The following organisations could be reporting parties:

  • Youth and Care Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN)
  • Central Authority
  • Bonaire: Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Hotline (Akseso)
  • Saba: Safety Network
  • St. Eustatius: Unit Social Support

Care providers
These are people that are already assisting or guiding the family or child.

Council investigator
This is an official from the Guardianship Council who talks to the child, parents and other people that are familiar with the child. She wants to know how the child is doing in his or her surroundings. The aim is to identify the child's problems and to find a solution. The council investigator will compile a report about this. If compulsory assistance is needed, the Guardianship Council will ask the court to impose a child protection measure.

Judge
The judge will decide over requests or advice from the Guardianship Council. This will take during a meeting at the courthouse, the court hearing.

Lawyer
Parents can request assistance from a lawyer. S/he can help parents during the court hearing.
