In which upbringing-related problems does the Guardianship Council become involved?

It is important for children to grow up in a balanced way. But this is not always possible, and problems are so severe that they pose a risk to the development of the child. Problems that can have a negative impact on a child's development:

  • sexual abuse, child abuse and neglect;
  • criminal behaviour of the child or parents;
  • behavioural problems in the child;
  • child has problems at school or  is often truant;
  • drug- or alcohol abuse by the child or parents;
  • parents with psychiatric problems.

It is a big step for children to talk about problems at home. Recognising a threatening situation for a child is therefore not easy.. It also takes courage to take action.
