Applications
If you do not have the Dutch nationality, then you may still be eligible for the Kingdom Scholarship in some cases. This depends on where you study and whether you receive a student scholarship. You must indicate this clearly on the application form. If we need more information from you for clarification, then we will contact you.
If your application for the Kingdom Scholarship is not complete, we give you the opportunity to provide the additional documents. N.B. We must receive all documents before the deadline for the semester applicable to you. In exceptional cases it may be decided that it is possible to submit one additional document after the deadline due to the hardship clause scheme. This will be communicated by email. Applications that are not completed and submitted on time will not be included in the lottery.
You can only apply for the Kingdom Scholarship for full-time programmes at the educational institutions listed on the educational institutions page. Students of part-time programmes are not eligible for the Kingdom Scholarship.
No, students can only be eligible for the Kingdom Scholarship if they are studying full-time at one of the educational institutions listed on the educational institutions page. Students studying at other educational institutions are not eligible for the Kingdom Scholarship.
Periods of internship or study exchange
You can apply for the Kingdom Scholarship with a start date between 15 January and 31 July, or between 1 August and 14 January.
The semesters of the educational institutions on St. Maarten have a different date. The start dates of the semesters on St. Maarten are set at the 1st of August and the 15th of January, respectively. This has been taken into account in the scholarship scheme. You can apply for the Kingdom Scholarship if different start dates apply, as long as this is for a study exchange on St. Maarten.
No, you can only apply for the Kingdom Scholarship if the period is more than 21 days but less than 6 months.
You can submit an application for a minor for which the curriculum proposes an internship period. In your application you must clearly indicate that your application is focussed on study exchange. You cannot check study exchange and internship or submit two applications for the periods. The entire duration of the study exchange is decisive for awarding the Scholarship.

Decisions
After the draw for the semester has taken place at the civil-law notary, you will receive a decision stating whether you have been drawn or not for the Kingdom Scholarship.
Depending on the information you provide on the application form, we will check whether the requested scholarship amount is in line with the Kingdom Scholarship Programme Scholarship Scheme. It is possible that the amount to be received for the Kingdom Scholarship is adjusted to deviating start or end dates for the internship/study exchange. If you are selected then you receive a decision, stating the scholarship amount to be paid.
After the closing period for the submission of applications, the draw will take place through the civil-law notary. After this, we can prepare the decision. Between four and six weeks after the deadline for the submission of the relevant semester you will receive the decision by e-mail.
The official working language and legislation for the Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland is Dutch. As a result, it is not possible to receive the decision in a language other than Dutch. However, the information about the Kingdom Scholarship and the accompanying forms are available in Dutch, English, Papiamento, and Papiamentu. You can also email your questions in these languages.
Objection
The decision received will tell you where you can lodge an objection. If you want to object to the decision, you received then you can send it to koninkrijksbeurs@rijksdienstcn.com. We will process your objection. You receive confirmation of receipt from us within a few days.
The decision received will also state the time limit within which you can lodge an objection. Within six weeks after the date of the decision, you can lodge the objection with us. If we receive your objection later then we will not be able to process it.
It is only possible to lodge an objection to a decision in writing. The objection can be submitted in Dutch, English, Papiamento, or Papiamentu.
The notice of objection must at least contain the following:
- Your given name, surname, and address
- The place and date
- A description of the decision to which you want to lodge an objection, with mention of the decision number in the correspondence
- The reason why you disagree with the decision
- Your signature
- Where possible, a copy of the decision in question attached
You receive a reply to the notice of objection within four months from the date of receipt. We may need more information to handle the objection correctly. In that case, we will contact you. This does not change the four-month period within which you will receive a reply from us.
If you have not received a decision from us, then you cannot file a notice of objection. However, you can always contact us, for example to report a complaint via koninkrijksbeurs@rijksdienstcn.com. We will then try to handle your complaint submitted via email as quickly as possible.
Privacy
We do not share your data with third parties and process your data according to the requirements of the privacy legislation. We handle the personal data we hold about you with due care, with the aim of being able to perform the administrative operations related to the Kingdom Scholarship effectively.
When we receive your application, we will ask for a copy of your passport. As soon as we can establish that your application is complete, the copy of the passport will be deleted. We will retain all other personal data until at least the 1st of April 2029.
