Safe Together Strong Together – Protection Code Caribbean Netherlands

Everyone deserves a safe home. Based on that principle, the Protection Code, which has been in effect since the 1st of January 2025, was developed for the Caribbean Netherlands.

The Safe Together Strong Together campaign aims to support professionals such as social workers, teachers, and healthcare workers in applying the new Protection Code. In addition, advisory points have been established on each island where anyone can go for help, advice or questions.

Protection Code for Professionals

Since the 1st of January 2025, organizations are required to work with the Protection Code. The Protection Code, consisting of five steps, provides professionals with clear guidelines on what is expected of them when they suspect domestic violence or child abuse. It also establishes a reporting right, allowing professionals to report signs of domestic violence or child abuse under clear conditions.

Protection Code for Citizens

For the citizens of the islands, the Protection Code means that professionals must act with care and first discuss any suspicions with the client or parents before making a report.

Advisory Point

Citizens and professionals with concerns about domestic violence or child abuse can turn to a dedicated advisory point. Each island has an advisory point that offers appropriate advice in every situation. These advisory points help answer questions, provide support, and handle reports when necessary.
