Residents of Bonaire to receive their healthcare cards from 28 October

BONAIRE - Care & Youth Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN) is introducing the healthcare card on Bonaire from 28 October. The healthcare card replaces the paper insurance certificate. Previously, insured persons had to collect a certificate of insurance from the ZJCN office prior to travelling abroad. This is no longer necessary with the new healthcare card. Moreover, the healthcare card can also be used on Bonaire for regular care at general practitioners, pharmacies, collection labs, and at the hospital.

Healthcare card as insurance certificate
The healthcare card replaces the paper insurance certificate. From now on, insured persons with a minimum insurance period of two years no longer need to visit the ZJCN office to collect an insurance certificate before travelling. The healthcare card is personal and is proof of registration with ZJCN. The healthcare card contains the details of the insured person and the contact details of ZJCN. In case of urgent medical care abroad, you should contact ZJCN as soon as possible. With the introduction of the healthcare card, processes for both insured persons and healthcare providers are becoming simpler and more efficient.

Healthcare card is not travel insurance
The healthcare card is only for medical emergencies abroad that cannot be postponed. ZJCN advises all residents of the Caribbean Netherlands to take out travel insurance before travelling abroad.

Collection healthcare card
Residents of Bonaire who have been insured with ZJCN for at least two years can collect their healthcare card, based on age, in Kralendijk from 28 October up to and including 30 November. Between 2 December and 7 December, there will also be an opportunity to collect the healthcare card in Rincon. See schedule.

Required documents
When collecting the healthcare card, you need to show a valid sédula and you need to submit the completed customer form, which is available both online and at the ZJCN office. Other forms of identification, like a passport or driving license, are not accepted. Parents of children under the age of 18 can collect the healthcare card of their child.

It is also required to communicate the bank account number so that this information can be registered in the ZJCN database for future (medical) reimbursements. There is no charge for obtaining the healthcare card. However, a charge does apply in case of replacement.

Authorisation form
Residents of Bonaire who are less mobile or have other restrictions can authorise a family member through the authorisation form, which is available both online and at the ZJCN office. If you are unable to pick up your healthcare card, you can email info@ZorgVerzekeringsKantoor.nl or drop by the ZJCN office to schedule an appointment.
