Residents of St. Eustatius will receive their health care card starting July 8th

On July 8th, Care & Youth Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN) will introduce the health care card in St. Eustatius. The introduction on Saba was on April 22nd and later this year Bonaire will also follow. The health care card is an individual card aimed at facilitating access to emergency medical care abroad for insured residents of the Caribbean Netherlands. This concerns urgent medical treatments that cannot be postponed.

Healthcare card as proof of insurance

The health care card replaces the proof of insurance. Insured individuals will no longer need to visit the ZJCN office to obtain proof of insurance before traveling abroad. The health care card includes the insured person's details as well as ZJCN's contact information. In case of emergency medical care abroad, individuals should contact ZJCN as soon as possible. Additionally, the health care card can be used at pharmacies and laboratories in St. Eustatius.

Healthcare card is not travel insurance

The health care card is specifically designed for urgent medical situations abroad that cannot be postponed. ZJCN strongly recommends that all residents of the Caribbean Netherlands obtain travel insurance before embarking on international trips.

Collecting the health care card

Insured residents of St. Eustatius are requested to collect their health care cards as detailed below:

July 8th until August 2nd
Monday through Friday

*Exception: closed on Monday July 29th

09:00 am –  05:00 pm

Location: Fort Oranjestraat 12 (former RCN/SOO office)

All residents of St. Eustatius with a minimum insurance period of 2 years will receive a personal health care card. Parents of children under 18 years old can collect their child's card. The validity of the health care card ranges from 2 to 5 years, depending on the insurance period.

When collecting the card, individuals must present a valid I.D. card, passport, or driver's license. Additionally, presenting a bank card is required so that the bank account number can be registered in ZJCN's database for future (medical) reimbursements. The acquisition of the health care card is free of charge.

Power of Attorney Form

Residents of St. Eustatius who are less mobile or have other limitations can authorize a family member through a power of attorney form, which is available online or can be obtained at the ZJCN office.

After the distribution of health care cards in St. Eustatius, ZJCN will announce when residents of Bonaire can collect their healthcare cards. For more information, please visit:
