Agreements with Bonaire and Saba on further improving education
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) is working together with Bonaire and Saba to further improve the quality of education on the islands. This was agreed upon today by the Minister of OCW, the boards of schools on both islands, the Educational Care Expertise Centres (EOZs) and the commissioners of the public entities of Bonaire and Saba.
The cooperation focuses, among other things, on recruiting and informing educational staff, professionalising school boards, attention to multilingualism, maintenance of school buildings, better progression to secondary education and developing a vision on digital literacy.
The agreements are set out in an education agenda per island, which were digitally signed today by all parties involved. The details of the agreements will now be worked out and published in August. Implementation of the education agendas will then start immediately in the new school year. The agreements will run up to and including the 2026/2027 school year.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science is still in deliberation with the parties involved on St. Eustatius to draw up an education agenda with that island as well.
