Information about Labour affairs for employees and employers

At the beginning of May the RCN Unit for Social Affairs and Employment (RCN SZW unit) and 'Plenchi di Trabou' on Bonaire are organising a variety of information meetings for employees and employers. These meetings will deal with all the matters laid down in employment legislation, so that employees and employers know exactly what their rights and obligations are.

The legal rules relating to employment are intended to ensure that work is performed in a fair, safe and healthy way. Sometimes employees and employers are not fully aware of these rules. That is why the RCN SZW unit, together with Plenchi di Trabou, is organising a series of meetings to inform employees and employers about all their rights and obligations. Among other things the focus will be on employment-related matters such as the employment contract, (minimum) wage, overtime, dismissal, illness and pregnancy, working hours, safety in the workplace and the rules which apply to public holidays.

The information sessions are to be held in a number of different languages. All the meetings for employees will be held in Dutch, Papiamentu and Spanish at various locations from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 10th of May.

The information sessions for employers will be held in Dutch from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. on the 2nd of May, in Papiamento from 7.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on the 3rd of May and in Spanish from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. on the 4th of May. All the meetings are being held at the Chamber of Commerce.
