Training for people who want to work in construction
Eight job-seekers will have the opportunity to participate in a free basic training course for the construction industry. After successfully completing the training, the participants will receive a certificate and will be directly placed with an employer. The training is organised by Plenchi di Trabou in cooperation with Onderwijs Instituut Caribisch Nederland (OICN).
The objective of the training is to mediate local jobseekers on Bonaire for a job in construction. There is a high demand for labour within the construction sector and it looks like this demand will remain for the time being.
The training starts on the 7th of March and will last a month. During this period, participants will receive theoretical and practical lessons in the morning and in the afternoon they will join a construction company to gain practical experience. The components that will be covered are: Bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, iron braiding, painting, plumbing, electricity and installing window frames and doors.
Participation in the training is free of charge. Participants must be able to perform physically challenging work, be able to read and write (Papiamentu) and be motivated to work in the construction sector. In consultation with their employers, people who already work in the construction industry can also participate in this training in order to be upskilled.
