Plenchi di Trabou celebrates its first year of existence

The job centre Plenchi di Trabou celebrated its one-year anniversary on Monday, 14 February, in the presence of State Secretary Van Huffelen. The job centre of Bonaire opened its doors on the 10th of February 2021, and looks back on a good start-up year. Last year, 1011 job seekers were registered at Plenchi di Trabou and 106 inhabitants of Bonaire were placed in a paid job through active mediation of the job centre.  In addition, many others found a job with the help of Plenchi di Trabou.

With the opening of the job centre Plenchi di Trabou a year ago, one of the objectives of the Governance Agreement was realised. There is now a solid cooperation between the Public Entity Bonaire, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment and the RCN unit on Bonaire. Plenchi di Trabou was established to bring together supply and demand in the labour market. If job seekers have a large distance to the labour market, Plenchi di Trabou deploys labour market instruments, such as job programmes, to give these people a chance to re-enter. The staff also provide daily information on topics such as applying for a job, career opportunities, career development, training and employment permits. Employers can get information from Plenchi di Trabou on recruitment, selection and retention of staff as well as on remuneration possibilities. Meanwhile, both job seekers and employers know how to find Plenchi di Trabou.

In 2021, Plenchi di Trabou worked, among other things, for people who lost their jobs due to bankruptcy. Due to the corona crisis, people were looking for work more often than usual. Over a thousand people registered as job-seekers last year. Despite this sharp increase in the customer base, the organisation ended the year with only 520 active job-seekers.

When the economy picked up enormously in the summer due to the return of tourism, it was the employers who came to Plenchi for personnel. That is why, in addition to network meetings and job programmes, Plenchi also organised a successful 'speed meet' in November 2021 in cooperation with Bonhata and TCB, to bring employers in the tourism sector and job seekers into contact with each other. In the coming year, Plenchi intends to further contribute to filling labour shortages in the sectors of construction, engineering and tourism through job programmes, speed meets and network meetings.
