In the Judicial Institution Caribbean Netherlands (JICN) inmates are not allowed to have certain items in their possession. That is why we do everything we can to prevent the import of prohibited items into our institutions.

Think of items that are not allowed in public society either: drugs and weapons. There are also items that are legal outside the institution but that may be prohibited if you are incarcerated,  such as mobile phones and other data carriers, alcohol and money. The Custodial Institutions Agency (DJI) refers to all these prohibited items as 'contraband'.
Here you can find a list with all the items that are prohibited within the JICN.

Contraband within the institution can lead to extortion, intimidation and mutual aggression. Both between litigants and between litigants and staff. The possession of these prohibited items also increases the risk that litigants continue to act in a criminal manner during their sentence or measure. And it stands in the way of a good reintegration.
It is punishable to import contraband into a judicial institution. Those who bring in prohibited items into the institution may be punishable under this provision and the JICN shall report these persons to the police.
