Job description

This is a wide-ranging and responsible role, with a clear social goal. Every day you will be helping to create a more social society by carefully managing and administratively processing personal and company data. This means you will be checking, examining, processing, recording, assessing and authorising data, answering customer queries and, where necessary, liaising with colleagues and other agencies. Your task will be to ensure that employers and individuals receive their benefits on time and that all the relevant information is recorded accurately and securely.

Duties

  • You will assess applications to make sure they are complete and legitimate and comply with regulations within the sub-areas that have been assigned to you.
  • You will process data and systems and monitor dossier progress.
  • You will draft decisions or standard memos based on established guidelines and procedures.
  • You will conduct intakes with clients and also hold discussions with them about changes or the need to re-investigate.
  • You will perform simple to moderate calculations or checks using applications or otherwise.
  • You will identify irregularities or anomalies and report them to your superior.
  • You will file and archive documents.
  • You will liaise with the chain partners.
  • You will inform clients about procedures and their rights and obligations within the framework of legislation and regulations.
  • You will clarify decisions and provide a basic explanation of rejections or adjustments.
  • You will talk to clients at the front desk or over the telephone, sometimes in stressful or emotional situations.
  • You will help provide an optimal service to clients and will identify areas in which improvements can be made in terms of communication or processes.

The organisation

The RCN Unit for Social Affairs and Employment (Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid, SZW) falls directly under the ministry of the same name in The Hague. The SZW unit’s task is to ensure safe, healthy and fair work situations and to monitor these. The unit also pays out social security benefits on behalf of the ministry in order to contribute to the social and economic security of senior citizens, parents and people who are temporarily unable to work because, for example, they are sick or pregnant. A social relief benefit is also available to ensure the social and economic security of residents in a financial emergency. The SZW unit’s aim is to achieve a decent standard of living for everybody in the Caribbean Netherlands.

The department

The work of the loss of wages compensation department (afdeling Loonderving) involves assessing and processing applications for benefits by workers who cannot earn as much as they are used to as a consequence of illness, incapacity, or other legally valid reasons. The department checks the legitimacy of applications, processes data from employers and employees and makes sure that payments are made correctly and on time in accordance with the applicable legislation and regulations.

Job requirements

  • You have a qualification at MBO 4 level.
  • You have experience with inputting data into a registration system.
  • You are able to work accurately and in a structured fashion.
  • You are able to read and understand legal documents.
  • You have integrity and can deal with confidential information, including data covered by medical confidentiality.
  • You have a good written and spoken command of Dutch and you speak good Papiamentu, English and Spanish.

What do we offer?

  • An appointment in conformity with the Rechstpositiebesluit Ambtenaren BES (BES Legal Status of Civil Servants Decree);
  • A salary in line with the market, in initial salary scale 7 and job salary scale 8 a gross monthly salary between a minimum of $2.586,- and a maximum of $4.016,- based on a work week of 36 hours. A pay grade based on knowledge and experience;
  • A holiday pay (8.33% of the annual income);
  • A13th month (8.33% of the annual income);
  • Vitality allowance;
  • A pension plan administered by Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
  • 182 holiday hours based on a work week of 36 hours;
  • A temporary appointment of one year with the prospect of a permanent appointment in case of good performance and a positive appraisal;
  • A relocation scheme for applicants not living in the island.

Terms of appointment

  • A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
  • A medical examination for admission to the pension fund (Participation is mandatory, including a personal contribution);

  • The salary is paid in American dollars, the official currency in the Caribbean Netherlands;
  • The Caribbean Netherlands has its own tax regulations. Income above the tax-free allowance $21,956 in 2026 is taxed at 29.4% in the first bracket (up to an income of $53,198). A tax rate of 38.4% applies to the second bracket;
  • You are or will become a resident of the Caribbean Netherlands.
