The organisation
The RCN Unit for Social Affairs and Employment (Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid, SZW) falls directly under the ministry of the same name in The Hague. The SZW unit’s task is to ensure safe, healthy and fair work situations and to monitor these. The unit also pays out social security benefits on behalf of the ministry in order to contribute to the social and economic security of senior citizens, parents and people who are temporarily unable to work, for example because they are sick or pregnant. There is also the social relief benefit to ensure the social and economic security of residents in a financial emergency. The SZW unit’s aim is to achieve a decent standard of living for everybody in the Caribbean Netherlands.
Job description
The medical services receptionist is expected to provide an approachable and professional front-desk service to employers and employees regarding sick leave notifications and workplace accidents, and is the first point of contact for clients, visitors and external contacts of the medical unit.
The medical services receptionist combines front-office duties with administrative support and helps to ensure that appointments are scheduled efficiently and that client details are recorded accurately. The work is carried out in accordance with established regulations and working procedures, and the receptionist treats confidential and medical information with care.
The receptionist reports to the medical services manager/chief medical assessor regarding the quality and progress of their work.
Duties
- You will welcome clients and visitors and provide information about appointments, procedures and working methods.
- You will answer phone and online enquiries, make an initial assessment and ensure that appropriate referrals are made.
- You will liaise with employers, employees, internal departments and external partners regarding sick leave notifications and appointments.
- You will manage the medical assessor’s diary.
- You will schedule, amend and coordinate appointments for consultations, check-ups and examinations in accordance with guidelines.
- You will monitor the schedule, identify problems and liaise with those involved.
- You will record, check and process client data, documents and changes in administrative systems.
- You will process and follow up on sick leave notifications and liaise with the offices on Saba and St. Eustatius.
- You will identify and follow up on issues, such as no-shows and delays, and plan appropriate follow-up actions.
- You will support the medical unit with administrative and organisational tasks and file management.
Job requirements
- You have a senior secondary vocational education (MBO) level of professional and intellectual ability, and preferably have an administrative, secretarial or service-oriented qualification.
- You have experience with front desk or reception work and (medical) administrative support.
- You have experience with diary management and engaging with clients.
- You have experience with inputting data into, and processing data in, a registration system.
- You have knowledge of administrative processes and client registration work.
- You are familiar with procedures relating to sick leave notifications, consultation hours and the associated administrative tasks.
- You have an understanding of how services are provided to clients in a medical administration setting.
- You are able to work accurately and in a structured fashion.
- You have integrity and can deal with confidential information, including data covered by medical confidentiality.
- You have an excellent command of Dutch, with a command of Papiamento and English being desirable and a command of Spanish being a definite asset.

What do we offer?
- An appointment in conformity with the Rechstpositiebesluit Ambtenaren BES (BES Legal Status of Civil Servants Decree);
- A salary in line with the market, in initial salary scale 5/ job salary scale 6 from a minimum of $2.038,- and a maximum of $3.149,- based on a work week of 36 hours. A pay grade based on knowledge and experience;
- A holiday pay (8.33% of the annual income);
- A13th month (8.33% of the annual income);
- Vitality allowance;
- A pension plan administered by Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
- 182 holiday hours based on a work week of 36 hours;
- A temporary appointment of one year with the prospect of a permanent appointment in case of good performance and a positive appraisal;
- A relocation scheme for applicants not living in the island.

Terms of appointment
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
- Medical examination regarding mandatory registration for the pension fund (with a personal contribution);

- The salary is paid in American dollars, the official currency in the Caribbean Netherlands;
- The Caribbean Netherlands has its own tax regulations. Income above the tax-free allowance $21,956 in 2026 is taxed at 29.4% in the first bracket (up to an income of $53,198). A tax rate of 38.4% applies to the second bracket;
