Job description

As General Administrative Employee you will perform various existing duties relating to social insurance applications, social security benefits, work permits and labour affairs. You will ensure the proper processing of applications and you will answer queries of citizens.

Job duties

  • You will be responsible for the proper processing of applications relating to social insurance, social security benefits, work permits and labour affairs;
  • You will take care of the intake of new clients;
  • You will (re)check existing social relief (in Dutch: onderstand) clients and in case of new applications relating to the General Law on Old Age Pension (in Dutch: Wet Algemene Ouderdomsverzekering, hereinafter AOV) and the Widow and Orphans Act General Insurance (in Dutch: Algemene weduwen- en wezenwet, hereinafter AWW) you will verify client data with the Census Office;
  • You will answer general questions and in case of (special) social relief you will also provide information to clients;
  • You will compile dossiers and archive documents, and you will monitor changes in SZW applications; 
  • You will handle questions of employers and employees regarding labour law;
  • You will safeguard the quality of work performed and mediate in disputes between employers and employees; 
  • You will maintain contacts with chain partners.

The organisation

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) administers the social security for the Caribbean Netherlands, under the direct supervision of the department in the Netherlands. To this end, a separate unit was set up, which, under the leadership of the unit head, is responsible for the implementation of AOV, Social Relief, AWW, Labour Inspection, Labour Affairs, Loss of Wages and the granting of Work Permits.

Job requirements

  • You have an mbo4 (senior secondary vocational education and training) level of working and thinking (preferably legal administrative);
  • You have knowledge of the SZW-CN’s field of activity and (in a broad sense) of the social insurance laws and regulations to be implemented by the SZW-CN;
  • You have a command of Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing.

What do we offer?

  • An appointment in conformity with the Rechstpositiebesluit Ambtenaren BES (BES Legal Status of Civil Servants Decree);
  • A salary in line with the market, in initial salary scale 7/job salary scale 8 a minimum of $2.586,- and a maximum of $4.016,-, based on a work week of 36 hours. A pay grade based on knowledge and experience;
  • A holiday pay (8.33% of the annual income);
  • A13th month (8.33% of the annual income);,
  • A pension plan administered by Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
  • 182 holiday hours based on a work week of 36 hours;
  • A temporary appointment of one year with the prospect of a permanent appointment in case of good performance and a positive appraisal;
  • A relocation scheme for applicants not living in the island.

Terms of appointment

  • A Certificate of Good Conduct (in Dutch: Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, abbreviated as VOG);
  • A medical examination for admission to the pension fund (Participation is mandatory, including a personal contribution;
  • Dutch citizenship.

  • The salary is paid in American dollars, the official currency in the Caribbean Netherlands;
  • The Caribbean Netherlands has its own tax regulations. Income above the tax-free allowance $21,956 in 2026 is taxed at 29.4% in the first bracket (up to an income of $53,198). A tax rate of 38.4% applies to the second bracket;
  • You are or will become a resident of the Caribbean Netherlands.
