Job description

As part of the partnership DFL Carib, consisting of the six islands in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, we are immediately looking for a driven and inspiring Coordinator DFL Carib for the implementation of the 'Sustainable DFL education in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom 2023-2025' project. It concerns a full-time position for the remaining duration of the project, which is currently foreseen until 31 December 2025.

What are you going to do?

As a Coordinator DFL Carib, you ensure the continuity of the project. You play a key role in the support of education and the Dutch language in a multilingual context. You are responsible for the initiation and leadership of activities aimed at supporting the teaching of Dutch as a Foreign Language and raising awareness among educational institutions and policy makers about the importance of an DFL approach in education for children and young people in the Caribbean. These activities are in four focus areas: awareness raising, expertise promotion, material development, and language policy. In this, the activity plan of 'Sustainable Dutch education in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom' is leading. You work closely with education experts on each island and with the advisory group, consisting of government and university staff and a representative of the Dutch Language Union (Taalunie).

OCW CG is the outpost of the Ministry of OCW in the Caribbean Netherlands and signals, informs, and advises the policy departments of the Ministry of OCW in the Netherlands on the local applicability of policy intentions and informs and supports all parties involved in the implementation of, among other things, the Education Agenda for the Caribbean Netherlands. OCW CG is responsible for the support and implementation of the policy intentions and legislation and regulations of OCW in the Caribbean Netherlands and feedback on the relevant progress. In this position, you have the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of the Dutch language in the Caribbean.

Duties and responsibilities

Your work consists of the coordination in the performance of the activities for the partnership. The coordination includes:

  • Initiating and coordinating projects and initiatives within the DFL Carib partnership.
  • Collaborating with education experts and stakeholders on each island to achieve the objectives of the project.
  • Developing strategies to support the education in and of Dutch as a foreign language in Caribbean education. To this end, you also participate in regional and international partnerships, and liaise with schools and education experts per island.
  • Planning and organising refresher training and networking opportunities for the DFL teachers in the Caribbean education field.
  • Where applicable, you work with the representatives of the universities in the advisory group, informing the network about relevant research projects and results from relevant studies. Reporting and collecting research data.
  • Driving the communication about (the activities of) the DFL Carib consortium and network.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and affinity with education on the Caribbean islands and in particular Dutch as a Foreign Language in the Caribbean;
  • Knowledge of the social and cultural context on the Caribbean islands;
  • Experience in maintaining (digital) communication channels;
  • Diploma in Educational Studies, Dutch and/or Intercultural Communication;
  • Demonstrable experience in project management and coordination;
  • Experience with the launch of processes (driver);
  • Political-administrative sensitivity and impartialness;
  • Strong communication and leadership skills;
  • Fluent in Dutch, English, and Papiamentu;
  • Candidates residing on one of the [six] Caribbean islands of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are preferred;
  • Customer focus and result orientation, proactiveness;
  • Resistance to stress and accuracy.

What do we offer?

  • A competitive salary in job salary scale 11, gross monthly of at least $ 4,050.00 and at most $ 5,240.00, in case of a 36-hour working week. Assignment to a pay scale based on knowledge and experience;
  • Holiday pay (8.33% of remuneration);
  • A thirteenth month (8.33% of the salary, with a gross minimum of $ 1,750.00);
  • A pension provision placed with Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
  • 168 holiday hours for a working week of 36 hours per week;
  • A temporary appointment up to and including 31 December 2025;
  • The work location is Bonaire;
  • A relocation scheme for candidates who respond from outside the island.
