Job description
You will work with your colleagues to perform operational policing duties and tackle security-related problems. With this in mind you will, as a neighbourhood police officer, constantly seek to connect with the general public. The focus will be on context-driven work, with your actions guided by an ‘outside-in' approach.
You will look to connect with the public and your team. That means being out and about when members of the public need you and knowing what is going on in your neighbourhood. You will be proactive, self-reliant and committed. You will feel a sense of responsibility for the performance of operational policing duties, for example through ownership and planning, and will take the lead in addressing security issues in your neighbourhood.
You will be good at generating support, a real go-getter and proactive in your work and your enthusiasm will get others (colleagues and partners) on board. When performing your duties, you will dare to be yourself, exude authenticity and reliability and therefore also promote professionalism among your colleagues. You are familiar with the digital world and have an affinity with social media.
The department
The task of the Basic Police Care Unit (Basispolitiezorg, BPZ) is to help maintain public order, security and quality of life in the Caribbean Netherlands. The BPZ focuses on the area-specific execution of operational police tasks, particularly for the benefit of processes of emergency response, supervision, enforcement and detection.

You know how to link the chosen themes with the issues in your neighbourhood and then deploy the team accordingly. You are proactive, like to take the initiative and are committed. You are able to set priorities and get people to cooperate effectively. As someone who likes to take the initiative and a member of a focus group, you will participate fully in the neighbourhood team and are good at generating support.
Other job requirements
- You have completed police training at senior secondary vocational education level 4 (MBO-4) or have an Accreditation of Prior Learning (Erkenning Verworven Competenties, EVC) pathway.
- The ability to have or establish a digital connection with the public and partners is a key element of the work of the neighbourhood police officer.
- You have an excellent command of Dutch, Papiamentu and English, while an active command of Spanish would be a definite asset.
- You have a mature attitude towards performing your duties and you do not shy away from taking responsibility, which means that you are proactive, assertive and able to deal with stress and respond quickly in emergency situations.
- You understand that you are the face of the Dutch Caribbean Police Force.
- Preferred candidates will be those who already have police experience.
What do we offer?
- A temporary appointment in conformity with the Rechtspositiebesluit ambtenaren BES (BES Civil Servants Legal Position Decree) for the duration of one year, with the option of renewal;
- A competitive salary in salary scale 7 (of at least $ 2,436. - and at most $ 3,806. - per month), in case of a 36-hour working week. Assignment to a pay scale takes place based on knowledge and experience;
- Holiday allowance (8.33% of the annual income);
- A thirteenth month (8.33% of the annual income);
- A vitality Allowance;
- A pension provision placed with Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
- 182 holiday hours in case of a full-time employment (36 hour) per year;
- A temporary appointment of one year with the prospect of a permanent appointment for good performance and a positive assessment result
- A relocation package for candidates who react from outside Bonaire.

The following order is taken into account in the selection:
- Official RCN staff on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (internal);
- Residents of the Caribbean part of the Netherlands (external);
- Other candidates (external);
Appointment requirements
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
- A medical examination for admission to the pension fund; participation is mandatory, including a personal contribution to it;
- Dutch citizenship.
Good to know for those interested outside the Caribbean Netherlands
- The salary is in US dollars which is the official currency in the Caribbean Netherlands;
- The Caribbean Netherlands has its own tax regulations. Income above the tax-free allowance ($21,373 in 2025) will be taxed at a rate of 30.4% in payroll tax in the first bracket; In the second bracket, a tax rate of 35.4% applies.
