The organisation

The Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN) is a young, small, and dynamic force with the islands of Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba as its area of operation and it includes all the processes of a full-fledged force. The force contributes to the safety and liveability of people living, working or staying as tourists on one of the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands. The department

The Intake Department is in charge of the organisation of the front desk function of the police. This mainly consists of contact with citizens who want to contact the police. Core aspect is the intake of statements / notifications (both in person at the front desk and by telephone). You assist citizens in various ways and handle their information with integrity and adequately. Handling is done in person, by telephone or by email. You process these statements in an official report and you provide service by offering police administrative support. 

Job description

As an Intake & Service Officer, you handle all common questions and requests of a non-urgent nature. You also provide information to citizens, agencies, and businesses. You check documentary evidence, take receipt of permit applications, and assess data on completeness. You also take statements of criminal offences and missing persons, with the exception of cases requiring immediate action, statements in ongoing cases or cases requiring special expertise. In the position of Intake & Service Officer, you forward statements for processing within the police force to relevant disciplines. You inform the persons making the statement of the result or status of the pending report. You also take statements of lost and found objects, you register visitors, and you perform access control. 

Job requirements

  • Your intellectual, professional, and educational ability is at the level of Senior Secondary Vocational Education (MBO) with a specific training in the focus area intake (including the Extraordinary Policy Officer Training (Bavpol));
  • You have general knowledge of the police organisation, the process, and relevant network / chain partners;
  • You have knowledge of and experience with registration systems, security technology, and developments within the implementation practice;
  • You have good command of Dutch, Papiamento, and English, and potentially Spanish;
  • You are highly skilled in speaking to citizens, agencies, and businesses in a customer-oriented manner and you know how to provide them with the necessary information;
  • You have analytical skills, a practical attitude, and the ability to solve problems;
  • You have an incorruptible and customer-friendly attitude, you know the rules both in writing and in your behaviour, and you realise that you are the calling card of the Force;
  • You are assertive and resistant to stress, empathetic, and you know how to assess a situation well. 

We can imagine that you do not meet all the requirements yet, KPCN will provide the necessary training, where possible. You are expected to make every effort to meet these requirements within a reasonable period of time.

What do we offer?

  • An appointment in accordance with the Rechtspositiebesluit ambtenaren BES (Legal Status Decree on Civil Servants BES);
  • A competitive salary in initial salary scale 5/job salary scale 6, monthly of at least $ 2.038,- and at most $ 3.149,- in case of a 36-hour working week. Assignment to a pay scale based on knowledge and experience;
  • Holiday pay (8.33% of the annual income);
  • A end of year bonus (8.33% of the annual income);
  • A vitality allowance;
  • A pension provision placed with Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
  • 182 holiday hours for a working week of 36 hours per week;
  • A temporary appointment of one year, with the prospect of a permanent appointment for good performance and a positive assessment result;
  • A relocation scheme for candidates who respond from outside the island.

An assessment, case, online screening and/or reference check may be part of the procedure.
This vacancy is being opened internally and externally simultaneously. The following order of preference will apply during the selection process:  

  • Official RCN staff on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (internal);
  • Residents of the Caribbean part of the Netherlands (external);
  • Other candidates (external).

Appointment requirements

  • A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
  • Participation in the pension fund is mandatory, including a personal contribution;
  • A medical examination is required for this position. Without a positive result from this examination, the appointment will not proceed;
  • Dutch citizenship.

Good to know for those interested outside the Caribbean Netherlands

  • The salary is paid in American dollars, the official currency in the Caribbean Netherlands;
  • The Caribbean Netherlands has its own tax regulations. Income above the tax-free allowance $21,956 in 2026 is taxed at 29.4% in the first bracket (up to an income of $53,198). A tax rate of 38.4% applies to the second bracket;
  • You are or will become a resident of the Caribbean Netherlands.
