JICN Internship
The JICN Reintegration Centre (RIC) supports detainees with their successful return to society. The focus of the RIC is on preventing repeat offending by providing practical help, supervision and encouragement in relation to work, income, housing, care, and more. What will you be doing?
During this internship period you will work closely with your supervisor, the RIC coordinator. You will be given the opportunity to perform, and gain experience with, a variety of practical tasks.
The work and tasks you may undertake during your internship include:
- supervising intake interviews and preparing action plans;
- supporting offenders with applications for ID documents, DigiD, health insurance and benefits;
- helping to arrange accommodation, assistance with debts, education and employment;
- providing support when it comes to filling in forms, applying for allowances and job applications;
- providing supervision in relation to the use of computers and digitally supported employment;
- maintaining contact with chain partners such as FORMA, the municipality, care providers and banks;
- possibly contributing to themed meetings, group information sessions and administrative tasks.
The organisation
The JICN is a correctional institution located in a modern building at Plantage Aruba, which accommodates all detainees in the Caribbean Netherlands. There is space for 113 detainees across 7 departments, including young adults and women, and there is also a remand centre. The JICN also processes people who have been arrested and detainees who have extra clinical care requirements.
Who are you?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated student who is studying at senior secondary or higher vocational education level who:
- is attending a relevant course;
- is able to work independently and is eager to learn;
- has an affinity with matters relating to detention, reintegration and social support;
- has a written and spoken command of Dutch and Papiamentu and who can preferably also communicate in English and Spanish;
- is open to continued development as a person;
- is sociable and patient and can deal with confidential information.
