Correctional Institution Caribbean Netherlands (JICN) is looking for work masters. As a Work master you counsel, motivate and instruct prisoners during the activities at the workplace and the workshop. Together with your colleagues you work within the ‘Ban Pa Kambio’ unit where you prepare prisoners for a future after the period of detention. You do this by teaching the prisoners a profession where they can gain the correct technical and theoretic knowledge, learn to cooperate and adopt a good work mentality. In this respect you have, among other things, the following duties:

  • You provide for the performance of the (daily) programme, the work process and the realisation of the production
  • You counsel, under the supervision of a teacher, the prisoners who are following an MBO (senior secondary vocational education) training
  • You provide for a safe, stable, hygienic work and living environment
  • You treat prisoners in a motivating manner and you inform them correctly
  • You provide for timely reports, advice, referral and coordination with other disciplines
  • You can be deployed to various Ban Pa Kambio / work units

We are looking for masters for the following disciplines:

  • Hospitality
  • Technique / Construction / Carpentry / Welding
  • Green Facilities

The organisation

The JICN is a Correctional Institution where all prisoners of the Caribbean Netherlands can be placed. There are 112 detention spaces divided over seven wards, including a ward for young adults, for women and a house of detention, isolation complex, prison and care ward.  In addition, the JICN cares for the detainees.

Job requirements

  • Your professional and intellectual ability is at the level of MBO (senior secondary vocational education), preferably MBO 4, in a technical discipline, e.g. construction, carpentry or welding, the green facilities discipline or the hospitality discipline
  • You take a flexible approach to, where required, being deployed as a master for other disciplines
  • You preferably have experience as an institutional employee or experience in counselling individuals seeking justice
  • You have professional knowledge and experience or you are willing to delve into the area of wood working, welding activities, green facilities, hospitality, construction or paint activities
  • You have affinity with production processes
  • You are resilient and your physical condition is in order
  • You have written and spoken command of Dutch and Papiamento. Ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred

What we offer

  • A salary in line with market conditions, in provisional scale 5 and job scale 6 of at least $ 1,507.00 and at most $ 2,459.00 gross per month at a 39.5-hour working week.  Classification based on knowledge and experience
  • An end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the remuneration or at least $ 1,750.00 gross
  • Holiday allowance of 8.33% of the remuneration
  • A good pension provision placed with PCN

  • 184 holiday hours (based on 39.5-hour working week)
  • A temporary employment of 1 year with the prospect of a permanent employment based on BES legislation

Terms of appointment

  • The ability to submit a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and a medical examination are required
  • Dutch citizenship is a requirement
