The Commission Supervision Personal Data Protection (CBP BES) is the independent data protection supervisory authority for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. CBP BES supervises compliance with data protection legislation, carries out investigations, advises on laws and regulations, and takes enforcement action where necessary. In addition, CBP BES is committed to raising awareness of personal data protection. Job description
As a Senior Privacy and Enforcement Lawyer, you are the key figure in terms of substantive legal matters within the supervision and enforcement of CBP BES. You are responsible for the operational management of complex supervision, investigation and enforcement processes, and you also act as the sparring partner of the Director-Secretary. You translate the strategic direction and priorities of CBP BES and the Director-Secretary into legally sound investigations, opinions, reports and enforcement interventions. In doing so, you combine legal expertise with a keen eye for the administrative and social context of the Caribbean Netherlands. In the absence of the Director-Secretary, you may act as their deputy, within the applicable authorities.
Job responsibilities
Your activities include, among other things:

The substantive and operational management of supervision, investigation and enforcement processes, from preparation through to reporting;

The preparation of enforcement interventions and decisions, and providing advice on the deployment and legal validity of enforcement instruments;

The provision of advice to the Director-Secretary on complex legal, administrative and supervisory matters;

The monitoring of the legal quality, coherence and progress of investigations, reports, opinions and decisions;

The monitoring and translation of relevant legal, technological and societal developments into the supervisory practice of CBP BES;

The provision of contributions towards the development of supervisory and enforcement policy, legal expertise and the further professionalisation of the secretariat;
-
The acting as the deputy of the Director-Secretary in their absence, where appropriate and within the applicable authorities.
Job requirements
- You completed a university degree in Dutch Law and have at least five years of relevant legal work experience;
- You have sound knowledge of privacy and data protection law, administrative law and/or supervision and enforcement, and you have experience with complex legal investigations, opinions and reports;
- You have an eye for developments in digitalisation, AI and information security, and you are able to place legal issues within a broader administrative and societal context;
- You have a strong affinity with the Caribbean Netherlands;
- You have excellent command of Dutch and good command of English and Papiamentu;
- You must be of good character, given the independent and impartial nature of the role of CBP BES, as evidenced by the submission of a Certificate of Good Conduct.

What do we offer?
- An appointment in conformity with the Rechstpositiebesluit Ambtenaren BES (BES Legal Status of Civil Servants Decree);
- A salary in line with the market, in initial salary scale 12 and job salary scale 13 from a minimum of $5.066,- and a maximum of $7.159,- based on a work week of 36 hours. A pay grade based on knowledge and experience;
- A holiday pay (8.33% of the gross monthly income);
- A13th month (8.33% of the annual income);
- Vitality allowance;
- A pension plan administered by Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
- 182 holiday hours based on a work week of 36 hours;
- A temporary appointment of one year with the prospect of a permanent appointment in case of good performance and a positive appraisal;
- A relocation scheme for applicants not living in the island.

Terms of appointment
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
- Medical examination regarding mandatory registration for the pension fund (with a personal contribution);

The salary is paid in American dollars, the official currency in the Caribbean Netherlands;

The Caribbean Netherlands has its own tax regulations. Income above the tax-free allowance $21,956 in 2026 is taxed at 29.4% in the first bracket (up to an income of $53,198). A tax rate of 38.4% applies to the second bracket;
