All-round SZW Officer

  • As All-round SZW Officer you are widely employable within the Social Affairs and Employment (Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid, SZW) unit. You will answer questions from citizens and employers. You will process and update data. You will take care of correspondence and identify bottlenecks.
  • You will define the service counter function for citizens regarding social security , for foreign nationals and work permits, and for employers and employees regarding loss of earnings and labour affairs
  • You will take care of the intake of new clients who claim social security benefits
  • You will (re)check existing social relief (Onderstand) clients and new applications relating to the General Law on Old Age Pension (Wet Algemene Ouderdomsverzekering, AOV) and the Widow and Orphans Act General Insurance (Algemene weduwen- en wezenwet, AWW). Additionally, you will verify client data with the Census Office
  • You will assess special social relief applications for lawfulness of the application and establish the necessity of the requested product by means of house calls
  • You will answer general questions relating to (special) social relief and provide information to clients
  • You will compile dossiers and archive documents, and process/monitor changes in SZW applications
  • You will identify bottlenecks in the execution of work
  • You will enter data regarding the occupational disability period
  • You will perform user acceptance testing

The organisation

The SZW unit implements social security for the Caribbean Netherlands. Furthermore the SZW is responsible for labour inspection, work permits and labour affairs. The unit has a staff of approximately 30, including four on Saba and St. Eustatius.

The SZW unit has launched a major revision of its applications landscape, aimed at realising further professionalization of our process management but primarily at better service provision to citizens. In order to prevent the current level of service provision from coming under pressure, we are looking for a temporary all-round SZW Officer.

Job requirements

  • An HBO (higher vocational training) level of working and thinking
  • You have proper knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations or you have the ability to quickly master them
  • A command of Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing. A command of Papiamentu and Spanish is considered an additional asset

What we offer

  • Salary scale 8/9 in line with the market, between a minimum of $2,247.00 and a maximum of $3,506.00 per month based on a work week of 39.5 hours. A pay grade based on knowledge and experience
  • A temporary appointment for a period of one year with the possibility of extension for a period of one year
  • An end-year bonus of 6% of the gross remuneration
  • A holiday pay of 8.33% of the remuneration
  • A proper pension plan administered by PCN

  • 184 holiday hours (based on a 39.5-hour work week)

Terms of appointment

  • Submission of a Certificate of Good Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG) and a medical examination is required
  • Dutch citizenship is a requirement to qualify for a position with the Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland
  • In the event of equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates from the Caribbean region or who have their roots in the Caribbean region
