Robberies Subsidy scheme
Has your home or company been robbed?
Then you can apply for a subsidy up to a maximum of € 1,000* for preventative security measures in order to prevent new domestic or commercial robberies.
Schadefonds Geweldsmisdrijven provides this subsidy. Schadefonds does this on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Security. With this scheme, the ministry wishes to help you to reduce the risk of you being robbed again. The reason is that research has shown that people who or companies which have been robbed and subsequently do not take any (additional) preventative measures are at greater risk of being robbed again.
*The subsidy is determined in Euros and transferred to your account in US dollars. The amount that you ultimately receive will therefore depend on the exchange rate.
Am I eligible for a subsidy?
To receive a subsidy, you must meet the following conditions:
- your home or company was robbed in the period from January 1st, 2019 to December 31st, 2021.
- during the robbery, violence was used or there was a threat of violence.
- you reported the robbery and you can prove this with a copy of the police report.
- after the robbery, you took security measures in order to prevent new robberies and you can prove this with an invoice.
- your application must be submitted before July 1st, 2022.
The scheme only applies if during the robbery violence was used or there was a threat of violence, for instance with a knife or a firearm. If you are the victim of a break-in or theft, whereby no violence was used or there was no threat of violence, you cannot submit an application.
For which security measures will I receive a subsidy?
All the security measures that are aimed at preventing a robbery being committed again are eligible for a subsidy.
A few examples for homes:
- installing good outdoor lighting.
- installing an alarm system.
- placing fencing beside windows and doors.
- fitting door security chains.
A few examples for companies:
- installing good outdoor lighting.
- installing an alarm system.
- installing camera surveillance.
- fitting a safe.
- organizing robbery training for the staff.
How do I apply for subsidy?
This can be done in two ways:
- Visit the Victims Assistance Office and they will submit your application digitally.
- Print an application form and send it, along with a copy of your passport/identity card/driving licence and all the required documents, by post to the Schadefonds in the European Netherlands. You will find more information about this on the website www.schadefonds.nl
Schadefonds advises you to submit the application via the Victims Assistance Office, because the post from the Caribbean Netherlands to the European Netherlands is sometimes slow. The Victims Assistance Office can submit your application digitally to Schadefonds without losing any time.
Furthermore, the Victims Assistance Office has experience with completing application forms and knows exactly what is important for Schadefonds. They can also, on behalf of Schadefonds, check your identity by looking at your passport/identity card/driving licence on the spot.
Submitting an application
Do you plan to visit the Victims Assistance Office? Then they will submit your application digitally for you. Make sure that you take the following documents with you:
- copy of proof of your identity (passport, identity card or driving licence)
- copy of the police report or official report
- copy of the invoice related to the security measures taken in order to prevent a further robbery
- copy of bank card
Do you plan to print the application form yourself and send it by post? Then enclose the same documents. Schadefonds advises you to submit the application via the Victims Assistance Office.
