Statistics Netherlands (CBS)
The task of CBS is to publish reliable and coherent statistical information which responds to the needs of society.
In addition to being responsible for the European-Dutch (official) statistics, CBS is also responsible for the production of European (Community) statistics and statistics for the Caribbean Netherlands.
The CBS office on Bonaire is the central point for data collection and publication of statistics. The analysis and processing of the statistical information is done at the CBS offices in The Hague and Heerlen. The information published by CBS deals with subjects directly affecting the lives of citizens in Caribbean Netherlands. These include economic growth, consumer prices, the income situation of individuals and households to also health and leisure.
Autonomous administrative body
CBS has the status of an autonomous administrative body (in Dutch: ZBO). This means that CBS performs public service tasks, but operates independently and not under the direct authority of a Dutch ministry. The Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy is politically responsible for relevant legislation, budget and conditions. CBS is financed from the state budget.
CBS and the law
The Statistics Netherlands Act constitutes the legal basis for CBS. Statistics produced by CBS are freely available to everyone. CBS safeguards the privacy of companies and individuals. The Personal Data Protection Act (Wbp) addresses the handling of personal data. Furthermore, CBS has formulated its own code of conduct.
