On Wednesday 21 January, the Population Screening Programme Caribbean Netherlands organised an Open Day for cervical cancer screening, in collaboration with Fundashon Mariadal and Youth Health Care.

Between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the team was on hand to inform visitors about the screening process, the health benefits, and the importance of participation. Visitors could ask questions, talk to healthcare professionals about any concerns or doubts, and register immediately for an appointment to have a smear test. In addition, this week it was also possible to have a smear test done without an appointment at several GP practices.
Youth Health Care was present on this day in connection with HPV vaccinations, which combine prevention at a young age with early detection. Thanks to these joint efforts, the importance of screening was brought to the attention of a wider target group.
We look back on a successful day in which another important step was taken towards making population screening accessible to women on Bonaire.
