The Correctional Institution Caribbean Netherlands (JICN) has decided to close Toko Lenny as of January. This decision was made following an evaluation and based on operational considerations.

Toko Lenny was part of the work program within JICN, aimed at providing work experience and preparing clients for reintegration into society. This objective remains but will be fulfilled in a different way. The store’s consumer goods, such as shaving foam, will be donated to the food bank. Food items will be used in the kitchen. The former Toko space will be converted into a repackaging center for the kitchen, where cold meals will be assembled.

This work is meaningful and educational for clients. The process is cost effective and sustainable, strengthening the work program within the institution. It also creates room to invest in better facilities, tools, and potentially additional work placements for clients.

With the closure of the Toko, grocery orders for our clients will once again be handled by external suppliers, as was previously the case.
