Director-General Public Health visits air ambulance provider Medicair

Last week, Director-General Public Health Marjolijn Sonnema of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) paid a visit to Medicair, the air ambulance provider for the Caribbean Netherlands. During the visit, she received an explanation about the deployment of the aircraft that carries out emergency medical flights for insured residents of the Caribbean Netherlands. She also emphasised the importance of the quality of the air ambulance, to which Medicair has been dedicating intensive efforts over the past months.

In April 2025, Care and Youth Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN) signed a two-year contract with Medicair. The company is primarily responsible for the operation of the air ambulance for the Caribbean Netherlands. To ensure continuity of service, Medicair now has Colcharter available as a back-up alongside Sarpa. Both providers can be called upon when necessary.

Medicair is also working on deploying a second aircraft. This will make it possible to respond more quickly to multiple requests at the same time or during maintenance of the primary aircraft.

ZJCN works closely with Fundashon Mariadal to ensure a well-organised process around the air ambulance for the residents of the Caribbean Netherlands.
