Ten new shiftleaders for the Fire Department on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba

The Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department (BKCN) has trained ten new shift leaders for Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba. These new shiftleaders are prepared to lead their teams in challenging situations, such as fires, accidents, or other emergencies.

The shiftleaders completed an intensive training program that prepared them to take command during various incidents. They received training in firefighting, providing assistance during accidents, and safely handling hazardous materials. Additionally, they completed a specialized aircraft firefighting training, which concluded in April with two practical training days.

BKCN’s Training & Drills department organized the entire program for all participants on Bonaire. Experienced BKCN instructors, supported by a teacher from the Royal Netherlands Air Force, conducted the lessons. A panel of fire service professionals from Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Curaçao oversaw the final exams.

For Saba, this is a special milestone. The island's two newly shiftleaders are not only women, but also the first female shiftleaders in Saba’s history. Two participants from St. Eustatius also earned their diplomas. The remaining six successful candidates are from Bonaire.

The new shiftleaders will continue to train regularly to ensure they can respond swiftly and effectively in emergencies. BKCN remains committed to the development of fire service professionals, contributing to the safety of Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba.
