Week against Child Abuse with theme ‘Give love and protection’

During the Week against Child Abuse from the 18th to the 22nd of November, Care and Youth Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN), together with its partners Public Entity Bonaire (OLB), Sentro Akseso Boneiru, ZW Group, Guardianship Council and Expertise Center (EOZ), is organising a campaign and activities. In doing so, they want to draw attention to protecting children in a loving way.

Theme ‘Give love and protection’

This year's theme, ‘Give love and protection’, aims to highlight the preventive side of interventions for children as well. Children need loving attention and boundaries to develop well. Examples of giving love and protection include paying attention to children's feelings, giving children space to share their opinions or teaching children to set boundaries and guard these boundaries.

Activities

During this week, the cooperating aid organisations pay attention to the child as centre point in various ways. Youth professionals and chain partners kick off the week with a networking event. Posters will be placed at various well frequented locations and interactive programmes will be given to schools for pupils and students on the above-mentioned theme. The bus with youth professionals from the chain will also drive through a number of neighbourhoods to raise awareness of the theme.

Week against child abuse is part of major campaign

The broad campaign Tei p'abo (there for you) against domestic violence and child abuse around the theme of ‘shame’ was already launched last September 2022. This campaign emphasises the importance of taking domestic violence and child abuse out of the taboo and paying attention to the shame that keeps people from breaking old patterns. A helping hand can sometimes be just the push someone needs. Part of this campaign is the week against child abuse, which is taking place for the seventh time this year.
