Investigation into possible data leak at the basic administration of Civil Affairs Bonaire

The Commission Supervision Personal Data Protection BES (the Commission) monitors compliance with privacy legislation in the Caribbean Netherlands. Recently, CBP BES received a notification and will now investigate it.

CBP BES received a notification from the Executive Council about possible irregularities related to basic administration at Civil Affairs Bonaire (Burgerzaken). Based on the BES Basic Administration of Personal Data Act, CBP BES has been designated as supervisor for compliance with this Act.

The BES CBP will start investigating the report within its jurisdiction. The investigation should reveal what exactly took place. Once the investigation is completed, the report will first be shared with the organizations involved and then the conclusions and recommendations will be published.

Besides conducting investigations, CBP BES is promoting awareness to prevent data breaches. In doing so, the focus is now on what organizations themselves can do to comply with data protection legislation.
