Van Huffelen explains process for appointment of Governor
State Secretary Van Huffelen is on Bonaire to explain the next steps in the process of appointing a new governor. The application process started in June 2023. State Secretary Van Huffelen spoke today with the commission on confidentiality of the application process, the Island Council, and the Executive Council of Bonaire. Until a new candidate is appointed, the position will be held by Mr Nolly Oleana.
The position of Bonaire's governor is an administratively demanding and important position. The process to fill this vacancy is therefore done with great diligence and that takes time. The procedure is therefore still ongoing.
State Secretary Van Huffelen: Given the major challenges in areas such as poverty alleviation, economy and climate, Bonaire needs an administrative heavyweight as governor." That is why I value the carefulness of this process."
Until a new candidate is appointed, the position will be held by Mr. Nolly Oleana: "It is an honour and pleasure to serve the people of Bonaire. I feel the responsibility for this task and I am grateful to continue to do so until a suitable successor is appointed."
