Minister Harbers from Infrastructure and Water Management to visit Bonaire
Minister Mark Harbers from Infrastructure and Water Management will be visiting Bonaire between the 14th and the 16th of April. The reason for his visit is the Four-country Dialogue for maritime and aviation with Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten. Minister Harbers will also speak to directors from Bonaire and pay a visit to the port and Bonaire International Airport.
On Monday, minister Harbers will visit the seaport of Bonaire to talk about the desire to realise a new cargo port. This is needed in order to achieve future growth and to improve road safety around the current port.
He will then visit Flamingo Airport later in the day. This is where he will officially open Celebration Day, which is the annual open day at the airport. He will also watch a presentation about plans for replacing the landing lights and platforms and performing a general upgrade at the airport.
The minister will also speak to the Executive Council of Bonaire, including about the future of the port and the airport, both of which are extremely important to the economy of the island.
The Four-country Dialogue with Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten will take place on Tuesday, and maritime and aviation-related issues will be discussed. The countries also consulted each other about these issues in 2023. The aim is to confirm the agreements that were made at the time, and to discuss how they can be specified further, to ensure that all countries will be able to meet their future obligations under the international treaties to which they are affiliated.
Discussions will also take place about a kingdom-wide policy for accident investigation, the accessibility of all islands, and a pilot project with electric flights in the Caribbean region of the kingdom.
