Vessel runs aground on reef in Sorobon
On Tuesday, the 14th of November, around 11 PM, the central control room received a report about a vessel that was stranded near Sorobon. The vessel became stuck on the reef at the inlet of water between Sorobon and Lac. The vessel with two men on board was en route from Curaçao to Aves when she suddenly ran into trouble south of Bonaire.
All security services, including the Royal Military Police, the Dutch Caribbean Police Force, Customs and the Coast Guard, responded to provide assistance and rescue. Given the sea conditions and because there was no other way to access the vessel, the Coast Guard decided to call in the Coast Guard helicopter.
Because the vessel started to fill with water and the helicopter had not yet arrived, employees of the Royal Military Police, Coast Guard and Customs decided to walk through the shallow water but could not reach the two people. The helicopter and crew assisted the men so that they could be safely taken to Sorobon beach by helicopter.
