Speech Island Governor Rijna May 12th, 2020
Today, May 12th, is International Nurses Day. Every year, those who work in the healthcare sector are honored on the birthday of Florence Nightingale. As with other celebrations and events in recent weeks, this year's celebration of International Nurses Day naturally has a different touch due to its corona impact.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone working in the healthcare sector on your special day.
Keep up the good work.
As for today's figures, we have no active positive corona cases. A total of 291 people have been tested for the virus so far, of which 31 between last Tuesday and Thursday, by means of the COVID drive-thru. At present there are 90 persons in quarantine.
As coordinator of the repatriation task force, Christopher Frans will provide the latest information on the repatriation progress of Bonairean residents .
As you might have noticed, our border is cautiously being opened further and further.
Finally, today I officially received the wonderful news that I have been appointed as Island Governor for another term.
It is a great pleasure and honor for me to serve my people as your Island Governor. In all humbleness I am thankful for the confidence that King Willem-Alexander and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations have in me, to appoint me as Governor for another period of 6 years.
With enthusiasm and dedication I promise to do everything I can to serve my island as well as possible.
We are at the beginning of a new chapter of our world history in every sense of the word, and I am proud to be part of this process as your service provider.
