Update BOPEC (4)
In October 2019, the joint inspection team (Environment and Transport Inspectorate, Rijkswaterstaat, Occupational Health Inspectorate and the Dutch Caribbean Fire Department) have carried out a follow-up inspection at BOPEC.
It was established that nearly all improvement projects were halted as a result of a lack of funding. As a result, BOPEC is no longer allowed to use both their jetties for loading and unloading of fuels. With the fuel oil still present, fuel is delivered daily by tank truck to the Contour Global power plant. BOPEC will have one chance to demonstrate during the upcoming inspection in April 2020 that the planned improvement projects can be implemented in a short term and in a safe manner.
