Lifting of strike ban Fundashon Mariadal
The ban on strike at Fundashon Mariadal, which was announced on August 27th on behalf of the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, was lifted after eight days by the Head of unit SZW Caribbean Netherlands, Mr. Eric Brakke.
On August 28th, Ms. Lee-Tromp traveled from Aruba to Bonaire and was appointed and sworn as a special mediator by the acting Kingdom Representative Jan Helmond. The same evening she had first discussions with the employer and the labor union. The special mediator reported on September 3rd that the mediation process has started.
Now that the parties have called in the intervention of a mediator in accordance with the BES Labor Disputes Act and the law stipulates that during the mediation process there is no strike, the intervention of SZW is no longer necessary.
