Cooperation OLB-ZVK-BIA makes Bonaire more wheelchair friendly
With the introduction of the Passenger Boarding Ramp at the Flamingo International Airport, Bonaire has become more wheelchair-friendly. The Passenger Boarding Ramp is a mobile construction through which wheelchair-bound travelers can get in and out of a plane much easier.
As a result of the Conference ' Accessible Tourism Bonaire ', held on October 18th, 2013, by the former “Werkgroep Fysieke Toegankelijkheid Bonaire” (Working group Physical Accessibility Bonaire, WFTB), on the initiative of the BIA and the partners within the working group, there has been lobbied for such a provision on Bonaire. The partners within the working group are MiVaBo, FKBO, Fundashon Mariadal and the Directorate “Samenleving en Zorg”.
In 2017 things moved ahead altogether more quickly when the public entity of Bonaire (OLB), the Kingdom Representative and Zorgverzekeringskantoor Caribisch Nederland (Health insurance Office) (ZVK) met to consider the various possibilities. By joint effort with the ZVK, the OLB and Flamingo International Airport it was possible to finance the equipment.
