First Bonaire price comparator
The first Bonaire price comparator will be published on August 30th, 2018.
With this price comparator consumers in Bonaire can easily see which amount they have to pay in which supermarket for a standard basket of 60 different grocery items. The basket contains daily groceries such as vegetables, meat and bread. But also includes products like washing powder, shampoo and toilet paper.
Promote price awareness
Unkobon, in collaboration with Fundashon Tienda pa Konsumidó Boneiru (FTpKB), is performing the price comparator project by order of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy.
The project aims to create price awareness among Bonaire residents. The price comparator will be published monthly in several newspapers and on www.unkobon.org.
In order to reach the widest possible audience, information about the price comparator will also be communicated through other channels such as Facebook and the radio.
Price observations
A product list (basket of grocery items) has been drawn up comprising 60 products which an average household regularly needs. The price comparator is about finding the cheapest alternative of these 60 specific products per supermarket.
Observers of the price comparator project will set out every month to visit 15 supermarkets. These shops provide a representative picture and are scattered across the different neighbourhoods on Bonaire. The 15 supermarkets have agreed to cooperate. The observers all have experience in the area of price observations. They will visit the shops in pairs and visit all participating shops twice, the second time to properly check whether no mistakes were made. They act professionally and transparently.
Choose consciously
The price comparisons are not price controls. The observers only record the price of a product and these prices are subsequently included in a list. This list is published monthly and consumers can make a well-informed and more conscious choice on where they do their groceries, using this price comparator.
