Royal Military and Border Police (KMar)
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) is a military police organisation with a history dating back to 1814 and falls under the Ministry of Defence. The KMar has been active in the Caribbean for over a century and a half.
- KMar’s duties
- With a Dutch passport to Bonaire, St. Eustatius, Saba
- With a non-Dutch passport to Bonaire, Statia, Saba
Unlike the police, employees of the KMar have a military background or education. It is a dynamic and flexible organisation with a varied range of tasks and deployed all over the world.
Since the state structural change on October 10th, 2010, the KMar is also responsible for border surveillance, security and police tasks at the airport and seaport. KMar-RCN personnel as well as employees with a military background perform these tasks in the Dutch Caribbean.
This unique combination can be seen in the distinguishing marks of the RCN personnel and the military personnel of the KMar.
