What is the amount of the compensation payment?
You will receive a one-off compensation payment from the Schadefonds of a monetary amount, which is intended as financial support. You will therefore not receive any damage compensation or compensation.
If you are the victim of a violent crime, the compensation payment will be between € 1,000 and € 35,000. The Schadefonds works with six so-called injury categories. In order to determine the amount of the compensation payment, the following matters are considered:
- the physical and/or psychological injuries
- the consequences of the injuries, for instance not being able to work for a long time
- the circumstances under which the violence took place
The more serious the injuries, the circumstances and the consequences, the higher the injury category and the related monetary amount. For the assessment of the amount of the compensation payment, the Schadefonds uses an injuries list. The injuries list gives an overview of the most common injuries and what compensation payment applies.
Extra compensation payment for surviving relative
If you are a surviving relative of a victim of a violent crime or wrongful death, you will receive a fixed sum of € 5,000. In addition, you can receive an extra compensation for funeral costs and for damage that you suffer due to the loss of income from the deceased. However, for this purpose, the Schadefonds requires supporting documents, such as invoices, insurance specifications, wage slips or annual statements.
Rate of exchange
The compensation payments are determined in Euros and will appear in your account as US dollars. The amount that you ultimately receive in your account will therefore depend on the exchange rate.
