What does the Schadefonds do in the case of fraud?

Unfortunately, it sometimes occurs that an application is submitted dishonestly. Schadefonds refers to this as fraud.

Examples of fraud are:

  • making a false claim
  • reporting a violent crime that never took place
  • reporting more serious injuries than are actually the case
  • reporting made-up costs/damage
  • presenting false witness statements

Schadefonds rejects this. The compensation payments by the Schadefonds are namely paid from tax revenues. The pay-offs are only intended for victims of serious violent crimes.

If there is a suspicion of fraud, the Schadefonds will set up an investigation. If they find it necessary, they will report the fraud to the police.
