How does the Schadefonds deal with my application?

When the Schadefonds receives your application, it first considers whether all the information required to deal with your application is complete. You will then receive an e-mail from us stating that the Schadefonds has received your form.

Contact by telephone
Initially, the contact between the Schadefonds and the victim will take place via The Victims Assistance Office. Together, it will be considered whether additional information is required, for instance from the police, your doctor or therapist. If the application requires this, the Compensation Fund can also contact you by telephone or by e-mail.

The processing
Once the Schadefonds has received all the documents, a lawyer from the Schadefonds will deal with your application. He or she will assess whether you meet the conditions for a compensation payment. This person will also determine the amount of the compensation payment.

The decision
Schadefonds tries to make a decision as quickly as possible but does so within 26 weeks at the latest. If you submitted your application via The Victims Assistance Office, the Schadefonds will send the decision to The Victims Assistance Office which will then contact you to collect the decision from them.

Did you submit the application independently? Then you will receive the decision by post or e-mail.

The payment
If you are to receive a monetary amount, the Schadefonds will transfer this amount to the account stated by you within 30 days after sending the letter. Please note! If you receive money from for instance an insurance or from the perpetrator, you must report this to the Schadefonds, also if you have already received the payment from the Schadefonds. The compensation payments are determined in Euros and will enter your account in US dollars. The amount that you ultimately receive paid into your account will therefore depend on the exchange rate.

Has your application been rejected?
Then you will not receive any money from the Schadefonds. You can make an objection to the decision.
