Lieutenant Governor ensures that the population remains informed about the Corona virus

The first measures to prevent the COVID-19 virus on Bonaire were taken this week. Since yesterday, air traffic restrictions have been expanded to limit the risk of contamination from abroad. The Island Policy Team (EBT) meets daily to discuss further measures and informs the Island Council and the Executive Council.

Gezaghebber Edison Rijna

The EBT is chaired by Lieutenant Governor Rijna and also consists of heads of department and directors of various executive organizations, such as the police, Marechaussee, the fire brigade, Fundashon Mariadal, the Public Prosecution, the acting Kingdom Representative and the acting Island Secretary. During this consultation, the affiliated parties discuss what measures are necessary and possible to ensure the safety of the population on the island.

Every day the latest update regarding the virus will be communicated from this EBT. As many questions as possible are answered through three permanent channels. These are the RCN website (https://www.rijksdienstcn.com/updates-covid-19) and the Facebook pages of the OLB ‘Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire’ and RCN ‘Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland’. The radio and social media will also be used to distribute the Q & As via audio. The information is provided in Dutch, Papiamento, English and Spanish.

Further decision-making is communicated through press statements or a press conference. The OLB and RCN request everyone to draw information from the official sources mentioned and to be vigilant for "fake news" in order to avoid sowing unnecessary unrest.
